Senior Fisheries Officer of Sadar Upazila Mirza Omar Faruk confirmed the matter on Wednesday (July 1) afternoon.
He said, based on secret information, a joint operation was conducted by Sadar Upazila Administration, Coast Guard, and Upazila Fisheries Department in the Puran Bazar area from 4 pm to 8 pm on Tuesday (June 30).
During the operation, 15 lakh meters of prohibited current nets and 100 Chinese door nets were recovered from a warehouse. In this incident, a person in charge of the warehouse was fined Tk 3,000.
The mobile court was conducted by Sadar Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate Bappi Datta Rony.
Senior Fisheries Officer of Sadar Upazila Mirza Omar Faruk said the estimated market value of the recovered prohibited nets is about Tk 5 crore. Later, the seized nets were taken to the Coast Guard Chandpur station and burned.
In addition to fisheries department officials, members of the Coast Guard Chandpur station also participated in the operation.
