Broiler price rises by Tk 30 per kg in a week

Such a scenario was observed on Friday (July 3) while visiting various kitchen markets in the capital.

In the market, Rui fish is selling at Tk 300 to Tk 400 per kg depending on size, Catla at Tk 230 to Tk 500, Bhetki at Tk 400 to Tk 550, Pabda at Tk 350 to Tk 400, Tengra at Tk 500 to Tk 700, and Taki at Tk 250 to Tk 350. Additionally, Tilapia is selling at Tk 120 to Tk 160, Pangash at Tk 200 to Tk 220, Mrigel at Tk 250 to Tk 300, Baim at Tk 600 to Tk 800, Koi at Tk 400 to Tk 500, Shing at Tk 400, Poa at Tk 260, and Shol fish at Tk 700 per kg.

An upward trend in prices was also observed in the shrimp market. Depending on size and variety, shrimp is selling at Tk 550 to Tk 900 per kg. The price of some large-sized shrimp has reached Tk 800 to Tk 1,200.

In the chicken market, broiler is selling at Tk 180 to Tk 190 per kg, and Sonali chicken at Tk 340. The price of eggs per dozen ranges from Tk 100 to Tk 110. Meanwhile, beef is selling at Tk 800 per kg, unchanged from before.

Md. Rafiqul Islam, a resident of Dhanmondi, said, "It has become difficult to find good fish under Tk 200. Although farmed fish is available at slightly lower prices, sea fish is going beyond the reach of common people."

Egg seller Masum said, "Compared to last week, egg prices have decreased slightly. Currently, white broiler chicken eggs are selling at Tk 100 per dozen, and brown eggs at Tk 120. Last week, the same eggs were priced at Tk 125 to Tk 130."

Buyer Nasrin Akter said, "Fish prices are increasing steadily. Many fish are going beyond the purchasing power of common people."

Fish seller Abdul Kader from Rayer Bazar said, "Fish prices mainly depend on supply. Due to low supply, shrimp prices are high. If river fish supply increases during the rainy season, market prices may decrease slightly."

Chicken seller Md. Sohel said, "Due to low supply of broiler, prices have increased this week. Compared to last week, the price has increased by about Tk 20 to Tk 30 per kg."
