Country moving towards trillion dollar economy: Finance Minister

He made this comment on Saturday (July 4) during his first visit to his hometown Chattogram after announcing the budget for the fiscal year 2026-27.

The Finance Minister said that the potential of Chattogram is much higher than any other region of the country. In the future, this city will develop as the economic logistics hub of the country, and this budget also reflects that goal.

He informed that there is a plan to establish a free trade zone on about 600 acres of land in Anwara, Chattogram. If this project is implemented, it will play an important role in increasing domestic and foreign investment, industrialization, employment generation, and export expansion.

Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury said that the government is consistently working to ensure an investment-friendly environment. As a result, large-scale investment will come to the country and the capacity of the economy will be further strengthened.

Earlier, in April, in response to a question from a ruling party member of parliament in the National Parliament, the Finance Minister had informed that one of the main goals of the current government is to elevate Bangladesh to a trillion dollar economy by 2034.

He then said that to achieve this goal, an integrated action plan is being implemented focusing on increasing investment, creating employment, economic democratization, creative economy, and sports economy.
