According to sources, at the monthly meeting of the KPI-related committee (KPIDC) on June 7, it was recommended to include the Gulshan residence as a special class KPI. After government approval, a notification was issued on June 15. Later, a gazette was published on Friday regarding this matter.
Tarek Rahman's Gulshan residence under maximum security zone
It is learned that after President Ziaur Rahman was killed in 1981, the house built on about one and a half bighas of land in Gulshan was allotted to his wife Khaleda Zia. Later, after the mutation was completed, the house was renovated and modernized. After returning to the country on December 25 last year, Tarek Rahman moved into this residence with his family. Even after assuming office as Prime Minister, he has been conducting government activities from there.
Although the state guest house Jamuna has been prepared for the head of government, he does not reside there permanently. While various state functions and government activities are partly conducted from Jamuna, this Gulshan residence is being used as his official residence.

As a result of the special class KPI declaration, special measures will be taken to ensure the external and internal security of the residence, the protection of officials and employees, and the security of important information, documents, and papers. A separate security committee will be formed under the coordination of the Special Security Force (SSF) to oversee these activities.
According to security instructions, the height of the boundary wall of the residence must be at least 12 feet, and a 'Y'-shaped barbed wire fence of another three feet in height must be installed on top of it. Additionally, considering the risk of potential surveillance, photography, or sniper attacks from nearby high-rise buildings, a special monitoring system will be established.
Furthermore, before constructing any new high-rise building within 150 to 300 meters of the KPI installation, permission must be obtained from the relevant authorities. There will also be restrictions on constructing new structures within 25 meters of the KPI building. In the interest of security, nearby electricity and telephone poles and hazardous trees will also be removed.
To ensure internal security, members of the President Guards Regiment (PGR) will be on duty 24 hours a day. Additionally, specially trained police personnel will also be deployed in the security system.
Officials concerned said that the residence at 196 Gulshan has been declared a special class KPI to ensure the security of the Prime Minister and his family, as well as to protect state-important information, documents, and administrative activities.
