Egypt took advantage of Argentina's midfield weakness from the start of the match at Atlanta's Mercedes-Benz Stadium. In the 15th minute, Yasser Ibrahim scored a brilliant header from Marwan Attia's cross to put his team ahead.

After conceding the goal, Argentina had a golden opportunity to equalize. They were awarded a penalty after a foul inside the box. However, Egypt's goalkeeper Mostafa Shobeir made an excellent save to deny Lionel Messi's shot.

Shobeir continued to thwart Argentina's attacks one after another. He saved Mac Allister's header, Julian Alvarez's shot, and Messi's long-range effort, keeping Egypt's 1-0 lead intact at halftime.
