The approval was given at a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs held on Wednesday (July 8) at the Cabinet Division conference room in the Secretariat, chaired by Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury.
In-principle approval for relocation of Sayedabad bus terminal to Kanchpur
Sources related to the meeting said the Prime Minister has instructed that the new bus terminal in Kanchpur be made usable within the next four months. For this reason, considering the urgent state necessity, the project will be implemented through direct procurement method by the Bangladesh Navy through the state-owned enterprise Chittagong Dry Dock Limited.
Sources said in-principle approval has been given for the implementation of the work titled 'Construction of shed, ticket counters, toilets, office rooms and ancillary structures of Kanchpur Bus Terminal' through direct procurement method.

It is learned that the Prime Minister instructed the relocation of the Sayedabad bus terminal to Kanchpur with the aim of reducing traffic congestion in Dhaka metropolis and modernizing traffic management. In response, the Local Government Division directed Dhaka South City Corporation to make the terminal operational, including constructing necessary infrastructure, within four months.
The estimated cost of the project is Tk 6 crore 88 lakh 2 thousand 532.
Under the project, about 4,012 square meters of platform will be cast and tiled, a shed will be constructed with 15,573 kg of profile sheets, 120 ticket counters, 32 toilets, office rooms, partitions and other necessary infrastructure will be built.
According to related sources, once the new bus terminal in Kanchpur is operational, the pressure of vehicles in the Sayedabad area will decrease and it will have a positive impact on traffic management in the eastern part of the capital.
