Argentina embarrassed by weak defense
Despite a great start in the current World Cup, Argentina has come under pressure in the knockout stages due to weaknesses in their defense. The team, which conceded only one goal in the first three group stage matches, has conceded four goals in the last two knockout matches. Ahead of the quarter-final clash against Switzerland, concerns are growing in the Albiceleste camp about their defensive performance.

Experienced defender Cristian 'Cuti' Romero has also admitted that the number of goals conceded recently is uncomfortable for them.

He told reporters, 'We are playing well, but there is still room for improvement in some areas. We have conceded four goals in the last two matches. Conceding so many goals is embarrassing for us. Nevertheless, we are committed to giving our best for the team and implementing the coach's plan.'

Argentina kept clean sheets against Algeria and Austria in the group stage but conceded one goal against Jordan. However, instability appeared in the defense during the knockout rounds. Although they won two consecutive matches 3-2, they had to concede four goals in those two matches.

In the first knockout match against Cape Verde, the opponent came back to level the score twice after Argentina took the lead. In the Round of 16 against Egypt, Argentina had to fight hard to secure the win after conceding two goals.

Analysts believe that compared to Argentina's defense in the 2022 World Cup, where they conceded only three goals in the group stage and Round of 16 combined, this year's defense is much more shaky.

After the match against Egypt, defender Lisandro Martinez also issued a warning about defensive errors.

He said, 'We never want to concede goals. Of course, we need to be more focused. I believe that if we can increase our concentration, we can avoid such goals. This is part of football. But the good thing is that these mistakes are happening now. This will make us more cautious and we will focus on ensuring such situations do not arise in the future.'
