The incident occurred on Saturday (July 11) around 8:15 PM at the Masterbari Panjegana Mosque in Gopinathpur village, Pirjatrapur Union of the upazila.
The deceased, Md. Aminul Islam (48), was the son of the late Shamsul Alam from the Kazibari area of Gopinathpur village. He had been serving as Imam and Khatib at the Masterbari Panjegana Mosque for over three years. Additionally, he served as the head teacher of Kanthanagar Dakshinpara Darul Sunnah Tahfizul Quran Madrasa for nearly a decade. Previously, he also served as an Imam for a long time at the Haripur Sufia Islamic Complex and Orphanage in Burichang Municipality.
Local former UP member Jahirul Islam said that like every day, he was giving the Esha Adhan on Saturday night. During the Adhan, he suddenly fell ill and collapsed inside the mosque. Later, the worshippers present quickly rescued him and took him to Burichang Upazila Health Complex.
Dr. Golam Rabbani Sohel, a physician at Burichang Upazila Health Complex, declared him dead after examination.
According to family sources, he left behind his wife, two sons, one daughter, and numerous relatives, students, and well-wishers.
Locals have been informed that his Janaza prayer will be held on Sunday after Zuhr at Gopinathpur Government Primary School grounds. He will later be buried in the family cemetery.
