The incident occurred around 9:30 PM on Sunday (July 12) in the Bank Colony area behind Shani Akhra Chapra Mosque.
Former bank officer electrocuted while trying to switch on motor standing in water
He was first taken to a local hospital in an unconscious state. Later, when taken to Dhaka Medical College (DMCH) Hospital, the on-duty doctor declared him dead around 12 AM.
The deceased's brother-in-law (husband of wife's sister), AKM Abdullahi Baki, said Rezaul Karim retired from the post of additional director of Bangladesh Bank about one and a half years ago. He was the father of two children and lived in his own three-story house in Shani Akhra.

He said water accumulated on the ground floor of the house due to continuous rain on Sunday. After Isha prayers at night, Rezaul Karim tried to turn on the motor switch while standing in the water. At that time, he was electrocuted and fell into the water, becoming unconscious.
As no one was beside him at the time of the incident, family members saw him lying in the water after a while and quickly rescued him. Later, he was taken to Dhaka Medical College via a local hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
Inspector Md. Faruk, in charge of the Dhaka Medical College Hospital police camp, confirmed the death. He said the body has been kept in the hospital morgue for autopsy.
