Housing Minister meets with US Ambassador to increase cooperation in housing sector

The meeting discussed various issues of mutual interest, including further strengthening the long-standing friendly relations between Bangladesh and the United States, as well as development of the housing sector, the national building code, urban development, ensuring affordable housing for the common people, and development of public places and parks.

During the meeting, the US Ambassador said that various US institutions are interested in working for the development of Bangladesh's housing sector.

At this time, Housing and Public Works Minister Zakaria Taher sought US cooperation in establishing the 'Bangladesh Earthquake Safety and Research Institute' to increase capacity to deal with earthquake disasters. In response, the Ambassador assured cooperation in establishing contact with experienced US experts on this matter.

Present at the meeting were Md. Nazrul Islam, Secretary of the Ministry of Housing and Public Works; Additional Secretary Md. Abdul Matin; Joint Secretary Abul Baker Md. Tauhid; and Chief Engineer of the Public Works Department Md. Khalequzzaman Chowdhury.

From the US delegation, Political Counselor Eric Gillan, Political Officer Josh Pope, and officials from the Public Diplomacy section of the US Embassy were present.
