The incident occurred around 1:00 AM on Saturday (July 25). Md. Shamsul Arefin, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Bagerhat Sadar Model Police Station, confirmed the matter.
The deceased, Nizam Uddin Shanto, was the son of Torab Ali from Paschimbhag village under Bagerhat Sadar Upazila. He was a regular member of the Bagerhat District Bar Association.
According to police reports, unidentified attackers stabbed him in the Harikhali Tetultola area while he was returning home from the town late Friday night (around 1:00 AM). Upon receiving information from locals and the National Emergency Service 999, police arrived at the scene and recovered the body.
The body has been sent to the morgue at the Bagerhat District 250-Bed Hospital for an autopsy.
OC Md. Shamsul Arefin stated that the police are actively working to identify and apprehend the perpetrators. An investigation is currently underway to uncover the motive behind the murder.
According to family sources, the deceased lawyer's father died in a road accident approximately one month ago. Prior to that, he had also lost his mother and his first wife. He leaves behind his second wife and three daughters.
