6 members of transformer theft ring arrested in Pabna, stolen goods recovered

Police Superintendent Md. Sufi Ullah disclosed this information at a press conference held on Monday (July 27) afternoon in the conference room of the Pabna Police Superintendent's office.

Those arrested are—Uzzal Hossain (38) of Char Ghoshpur village, Jibon (28), Arman Fakir (38) of Singa Bazar area, Jahurul Islam (30) of Gangarampur village, Dulal Fakir (35) of Poyda Rahimpur village, and Rafiqul Islam (30) of Rameshwarpur Southpara village in Pabna Sadar Upazila.

The SP said that on the night of July 10, an electric transformer with a capacity of 10 KVA worth about Tk 85,000 was stolen from a pole of Pabna Palli Bidyut Samity-2 adjacent to the government BADC irrigation project in Char Komorpur area of Dogachi Union under Sadar Upazila. The next day, farmer Shahinur Rahman, who was in charge of the irrigation project, filed a case at Sadar Thana against unknown persons.

Investigation into the case, the District Detective Police conducted raids in various areas of Sadar Upazila on Sunday (July 26) night based on modern information technology and secret information. During the raids, six members of the theft ring were arrested.

Later, based on information provided by the arrested Jibon to the police, various parts of the stolen transformer and tools used in the theft were recovered from a bamboo grove next to his house.

At the press conference, the complainant Shahinur Rahman expressed gratitude to the District Detective Police and said that two of his transformers were also stolen last year, but those could not be recovered. This time, as the stolen transformer was recovered within just 15 days, he thanked the police.

Additional Superintendent of Police Rejinur Rahman, DB Officer-in-Charge (OC) Rashidul Islam, and other senior police officials were present at the press conference.
