Top terrorist David Emon arrested while fleeing to India

On Tuesday (July 28) around 4:00 AM, they were arrested in an operation at the Jhumjhumpur area of Jashore city while heading towards the Benapole border to enter India.

Police said that a special team of nine members, formed under the leadership of the Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime and Ops) of Jashore, Md. Mirajul Islam, comprising the Jashore District Detective (DB) Police and Kotwali Police Station, conducted the operation.

According to law enforcement sources, David Emon had been under surveillance for a long time in Chattogram on charges of extortion, illegal use of firearms, and various terrorist activities. Recently, based on information obtained after the arrest of two of his accomplices, his location was identified and the operation was carried out.

Jashore Superintendent of Police Syed Rafiqul Islam confirmed the arrest and said that a checkpoint was set up in the Jhumjhumpur area based on a tip-off. Later, David Emon and his three accomplices were detained. After completing the necessary legal procedures, they were handed over to the Chattogram District Police around 10:00 AM on Wednesday.

Earlier, on Sunday night, Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) arrested two accomplices of David Emon—Md. Asif (25) and Saidul Islam alias Arif (24)—during an operation in the Wazedia area of the Oxygen-Kuwaish road in Chattogram city. Among them, Asif was an absconding accused in a case.

CMP Additional Police Commissioner (Crime and Operations) Muhammad Faisal Ahmed said that during Asif's arrest, a foreign pistol and two rounds of bullets in a magazine were recovered from his waist. In the same operation, another two rounds of bullets were seized from Arif's pocket.

Police claimed that in primary questioning, the two arrested individuals identified themselves as accomplices of David Emon. They also admitted to being involved in extortion and other terrorist activities in various areas of Chattogram using illegal firearms for a long time, police said.

Officials involved in the investigation said that based on information provided by the arrested accomplices and intelligence surveillance, David Emon's location was confirmed. Later, he was arrested in an operation in Jashore.

Police said that efforts are underway to uncover more information through interrogation of the arrestees about their terrorist network, sources of illegal arms, identities of other accomplices, and involvement in various crimes committed in Chattogram.
