On Thursday (July 30) afternoon, Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md. Sakhawat Hossain handed over the appointment letter to Sharmin Akhter. At that time, the Prime Minister's special assistant on health affairs Dr. SM Ziauddin Haider and Director General of Health Services Professor Dr. Prabhat Chandra Biswas were present.
Visually impaired Jahangirnagar University student Sharmin from Satkhira gets job
Earlier, on July 26, while visiting a hospital in Satkhira district, visually impaired Sharmin Akhter applied for a job to the Health Minister. The minister had assured her of a job. Sharmin's ancestral home is in Paschim Kaikhali village of Shyamnagar upazila in Satkhira. She has completed her bachelor's and master's from the Department of Government and Politics at Jahangirnagar University (JU).
After receiving the appointment letter, Sharmin Akhter expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Tareq Rahman and Health Minister Sardar Md. Sakhawat Hossain.

In a tearful voice, she told the media, “After knowing my situation, the Health Minister promised on his own initiative to give me a job. According to that promise, he arranged my employment in a very short time. Now I will be able to stand by my helpless family. For this, I express my sincere gratitude to Prime Minister Tareq Rahman and the Health Minister. Along with that, I also sincerely thank all of you.”
Health Minister Sardar Md. Sakhawat Hossain told journalists, “Sharmin Akhter is very helpless. Her family has no able-bodied member. She has completed higher education. After knowing her family's situation, I promised to give her a job. She has been appointed at EDCL. After the six-month probationary period, her job will be made permanent. Everyone please pray for her.”
At that time, Dr. SM Ziauddin Haider said, as part of implementing the Prime Minister's election pledges, the government stands by the disabled people of the country. Rehabilitation of every disabled person will be ensured. Along with that, employment will be arranged according to their qualifications and merits.
