Whenever demand for change arises, people of this country have had to sacrifice their lives: Local Government Minister
In Bangladesh's history, whenever the people have demanded change, they have had to sacrifice their lives. From the Language Movement and the Great Liberation War to the recent July mass uprising—behind every change lies human sacrifice. Therefore, to uphold the dignity of the martyrs' blood, real change must be ensured in the state and society. On Thursday (July 30), Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said these things as the chief guest at a program organized by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting at the Information Building Auditorium in the capital, on the occasion of July Martyrs' Day, which included the unveiling of a publication, a photography exhibition, and a discussion meeting.

The event was chaired by Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapan, with Information State Minister Yeser Khan Chowdhury and PSC member Dr. Chowdhury Sayma Ferdous present as special guests. At the beginning of the program, the guests unveiled the publication related to July Martyrs' Day and visited the photography exhibition.

The Local Government Minister said, change is an ongoing and inevitable process. But in the reality of Bangladesh, people have had to give their lives for every positive change. If, more than five decades after independence, young people again have to shed blood for demanding change, that is a matter of self-criticism for us.

He said, the July mass uprising proved that the country's youth are the greatest force for change. Remembering their sacrifice, a democratic, non-discriminatory, just and corruption-free Bangladesh must be built. Not just a change of government, but also positive changes must be brought in people's thinking, administrative culture, and state governance.

Sharing his own experience, the Local Government Minister said that even after assuming responsibility, he has seen old mindsets and resistance to change in various fields. To fulfill the expectations of the people, the administration must become more people-oriented, transparent, and accountable.

He further said, the sacrifice of the martyrs will be meaningful only when every person in the country works with honesty, responsibility, and patriotism from their respective positions. It is not through revenge but through national unity, good governance, and mutual cooperation that the spirit of July can be realized.

In his presidential speech, Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapan said everyone must remain cautious so that no one can gain any personal or political advantage centered on the spirit and achievements of the July mass uprising. He said, whenever injustice and exploitation have increased in society, the people, inspired by the spirit of independence, have risen against it. He called upon everyone to work together to establish justice, democracy, and human values by embracing the spirit of July.

The event was attended by heads of various departments and agencies under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, senior officials of the ministry, officers and employees at various levels, media workers, and invited guests.
