Alif, injured in NCP program in Habiganj, will not regain vision in one eye

On Thursday (July 30), Monira Sharmin, convener of NCP's affiliate organization Nari Shakti, shared this information in a post on her verified Facebook account.

She wrote that Alif's surgery was successfully completed, but it was not possible to restore vision in his left eye. However, his right eye is healthy, and he has been kept under observation after the surgery.

Earlier, the NCP had reported that Alif Chowdhury's left eye was severely damaged by a rod strike and he was at risk of losing vision in one eye. Later, he underwent surgery.

Last Tuesday (July 28), Alif was seriously injured in a clash and attack following the NCP's ‘July March’ program in Habiganj. He has been receiving treatment at a hospital in the capital since then.

That day, NCP's chief coordinator Nasiruddin Patwari, chief organizer (northern region) Sarjis Alam, and other central leaders participated in a rally in front of Habiganj Town Hall. After the rally, when their convoy headed towards Circuit House, the attack occurred.

The NCP alleges that bricks and stones were first thrown at Nasiruddin Patwari's car. Later, Sarjis Alam's car was also attacked, escalating the situation. At one point, he took shelter in a building of Sonali Bank in the city. Later, police rescued him from there and took him to Circuit House.

The party further alleges that the attack on their leaders and activists took place in the presence of law enforcement agencies. At that time, a microbus carrying the media team was vandalized, and journalists' cameras and mobile phones were snatched.

After the incident, NCP's chief coordinator Nasiruddin Patwari alleged in a post on his verified Facebook page that a group of leaders and activists from Habiganj district Chhatra Dal carried out a planned attack with hockey sticks, machetes, chains, and other local weapons. He claimed that although police and RAB members were present at the scene, they did not play an effective role. Many members of the party's media team, driver, and local leaders and activists were injured in the attack, and several had their arms and legs broken.
