Trump’s special envoy Sergio Gor meets prime minister, stresses bilateral ties and investment

The meeting was held at the Prime Minister’s Office in Tejgaon in the capital at 9:30 am on Saturday (August 1).

Sergio Gor arrived in Dhaka on Thursday (July 30) on a three-day official visit. That evening, he met with Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman at the state guest house Padma. After the meeting, Sergio Gor told journalists that his discussion with Bangladesh’s foreign minister was extremely fruitful and positive progress had been made.

Later, in a post on social media platform X, he said that against the backdrop of the improvement in Bangladesh’s overall security situation, the US State Department had lowered the travel advisory for the country from Level 3 to Level 2. However, additional caution remains in effect for certain specific areas, and it has been advised to avoid those areas. He described the decision as a positive development for Bangladesh.

On the day of his arrival in Dhaka, in another post on his verified X account, Sergio Gor expressed satisfaction over beginning his Bangladesh visit. He also mentioned his meeting with the US ambassador and expressed hope for fruitful meetings during the rest of the visit.

On the second day of the visit, Friday (July 31), he visited the Rohingya refugee camps in Ukhia and Teknaf in Cox’s Bazar. There, he took stock of the living conditions of the Rohingyas, humanitarian assistance activities, and the overall situation of the camps. During this time, he also exchanged views with concerned government officials, international organizations, and representatives involved in humanitarian assistance activities.
