He made these remarks while addressing the inaugural ceremony of 'World Breastfeeding Week' organized by the Institute of Public Health Nutrition on Saturday (August 1) morning as the chief guest.
The Health Minister said that mother's breast milk is the best source of nutrition for children and contains high levels of essential proteins. However, due to the trend of modernization, many children are being deprived of breastfeeding. He also noted that the rate of cesarean deliveries in the country has alarmingly increased.
He further said that early marriage, giving birth at a young age, and not breastfeeding children are hindering their physical development and increasing the risk of various diseases. Additionally, the lack of proper childcare is further complicating the situation.
The Health Minister called upon all Civil Surgeons, District Administrators, and health officials across the country to actively observe 'World Breastfeeding Week' to raise public awareness about the importance of breastfeeding.
He said that to build a healthy and robust nation, mothers must be made more aware of breastfeeding, and everyone in the family and society must play a positive role in this regard.
