Health Minister's surprise raid in Vedergonj, two clinics shut over irregularities
Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Shakawat Hossain has ordered the temporary closure of two private clinics in Shariatpur's Vedergonj upazila following a surprise inspection over allegations of irregularities. Additionally, two physicians have been served show-cause notices for providing medical services at private clinics during government working hours.

He took these measures on Saturday (August 1) afternoon while visiting the Vedergonj Upazila Health Complex and various private clinics in the surrounding area.

During the raid, Modern Clinic & Diagnostic Center and New Popular Diagnostic Center & Clinic were temporarily shut down due to a lack of required documents. Furthermore, two doctors were issued show-cause notices for seeing patients at private clinics during official government hours.

During the inspection, the Health Minister toured various departments of the upazila health complex, spoke with inpatients and outpatients, and inquired about the quality of healthcare services. He also personally inspected the quality of food provided to patients. Later, he exchanged views with doctors, nurses, and officials and provided necessary directives to improve healthcare services.

Addressing health workers, the Minister said, "Perform your duties keeping the afterlife in mind. Remember, you and I will have to answer to Allah for every action we take."

He further said that the late President Ziaur Rahman had upgraded government hospitals to 31-bed facilities, former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia upgraded them to 50 beds, and under the current government's plan, these hospitals will be upgraded to 101 beds in the future.

Outlining the government's future plans for the health sector, the Health Minister said that cancer units, physiotherapy units, and kidney dialysis units will be established in every upazila on a phased basis. Additionally, initiatives will be taken to build one children's hospital in each district across the country.

At the end of the inspection, he emphasized ensuring hospital cleanliness, quality of healthcare services, and a patient-friendly environment. At the same time, he made it clear that strict action will be taken against irregularities and negligence, stating that no compromise will be made with any form of irregularity to ensure quality healthcare for the public.
