During the visit, the ministers talked with buyers and sellers at the market and inquired about the supply, prices and overall market situation of daily essentials.

After the visit, Agriculture Minister Mohammad Amin Ur Rashid told journalists that the government has taken prompt measures to stabilize the price of green chili. He said the existing tax on green chili imports is being reduced and permission has also been given to import green chili. Import activities will begin from tomorrow. He expressed hope that as a result, the price of green chili will fall to a tolerable level within the next two to five days.

Commerce Minister Khondkar Abdul Muktadir said the government will take all necessary measures to keep the market tolerable for consumers. He told journalists, “You will present what you see on the ground objectively before the people. This will make people aware, reduce confusion, and no one will get the opportunity to create an artificial crisis or manipulate prices in the market.”

Earlier, the Commerce and Agriculture Ministers and the Food Deputy Minister took part in a meeting at the conference room of the Ministry of Commerce to review the overall market situation and determine action plans regarding essential and daily necessity (food and agriculture) products. Later, they left from there and went to inspect the Shantinagar kitchen market on the ground.

Through this government initiative, the supply and prices of daily necessity items will remain stable in the market, and ordinary consumers will get relief, as expressed by those concerned.
