The Prime Minister gave these directives at a meeting on solar power at the Secretariat on Monday (August 3). Later, Deputy Press Secretary to the Prime Minister Hasan Shipul informed journalists about the matter.
Hasan Shipul said the Prime Minister has taken three important decisions to tackle the energy crisis and promote renewable energy. These include the phased installation of solar panels on important government buildings, providing government assistance in importing raw materials used in solar inverter production, and developing an effective economic model to make solar power more affordable, accessible, and profitable for the general public.
According to the meeting's decision, solar panels will be installed in phases during the first stage at important government establishments, including Bangabhaban, the Prime Minister's Office in Tejgaon, the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban (National Parliament House), the Prime Minister's Office and Ministry of Finance buildings at the Bangladesh Secretariat, and the Planning Commission building.
At the meeting, the Prime Minister said that if the use of solar power begins in government buildings, interest in using this technology will increase among the general public. He therefore instructed the speedy implementation of solar power systems in various government establishments.
The meeting further said that the economic and practical benefits of solar power must be widely publicized so that consumers become more interested in using this technology.
The presentation stated that air conditioners, fans, lifts, and various other electrical appliances can be effectively operated using solar power.
Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, Prime Minister's Finance and Planning Adviser Rashed Al Mahmud Titumir, State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Mir Shah Alam, Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) Executive Chairman Ashik Chowdhury, National Board of Revenue (NBR) acting Chairman Ahsan Habib, and secretaries and senior officials from various ministries were present at the meeting.
