The meeting was held at the Cabinet Division of Bangladesh Secretariat at 2:30 pm on Monday (August 3).
At the beginning of the meeting, the South Korean trade minister informed the Prime Minister that if the CEPA to be signed between Bangladesh and South Korea comes into effect, trade and economic cooperation between the two countries will expand further. At the same time, South Korean investment in Bangladesh will increase significantly.
Yeo Han-ku said many South Korean companies are already successfully doing business in Bangladesh. Many more institutions are interested in investing in Bangladesh in the future.
In response, Prime Minister Tareq Rahman called upon South Korean entrepreneurs to invest in the toy, electronics, telecommunications, automobile, semiconductor, and shipbuilding industries.
He said South Korea is one of the world's most advanced countries in the shipbuilding industry. Bangladesh has skilled and promising manpower. If South Korea wants, it can set up training centers in Bangladesh, provide training and language education to local workers, and use them in its shipbuilding industry. In addition, if South Korean companies invest in the shipbuilding industry in Bangladesh, the government will extend all necessary cooperation.
The meeting also informed about the plan to organize an investment and trade seminar involving South Korean companies in Bangladesh.
At this time, the South Korean trade minister was apprised of the various steps taken by the government to ensure an investment-friendly environment.
In response, Yeo Han-ku said Bangladesh's initiatives and proposals will further strengthen the future economic relations between the two countries.
At one stage of the meeting, the Prime Minister extended a formal invitation to the South Korean President to visit Bangladesh.
Also present at the meeting were Minister of Commerce, Industry, Textiles and Jute Khandaker Abdul Muktadir, Prime Minister's Finance and Planning Adviser Rashed Al Mahmud Titumir, Prime Minister's Foreign Affairs Adviser Humayun Kabir, and Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) Executive Chairman Ashik Chowdhury, along with senior officials.
