Two school students missing after entering Jamuna River to bathe in Pabna

Around 12 noon on Monday (August 3), the incident occurred at Kazirhat Natakhala Ghat area under Aminpur police station in the upazila.

The two missing students are Ratul Ray (15), son of Anutosh Ray of Dhaltosha village in Nagarpur upazila of Tangail, and Prabhat Sarkar (14), son of Mithulal Sarkar of Dilalpur area in Pabna municipality. They are cousins and both are ninth-grade students.

According to police and local sources, they had come to visit relatives at Khanpura Madhyapara area under Aminpur police station. On Monday afternoon, when they went down into the Jamuna River beside the house to bathe, at one point they were swept away by the strong current. Locals searched for a long time but found no trace of them.

The disappearance of the two students has cast a shadow of anxiety and grief over the family and locals. The search operation continued until 7 pm in the evening, but no trace was found.

Arvind Sarkar, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kazirhat River Police Camp, said that after receiving the news, police quickly reached the spot. The fire service diving team has been informed to rescue the two missing teenagers. Police and fire service are conducting a joint rescue operation.
