Gas supply to gradually return to normal from Wednesday: KGDCL
After two weeks of severe gas crisis that severely disrupted production in factories across the country, Karnaphuli Gas Distribution Company Limited (KGDCL) has given some good news. The organisation said gas supply is likely to return to normal gradually from Wednesday (August 5).

KGDCL gave this information in a notice on Tuesday (August 4).

Due to the severe gas crisis over the past two weeks, production has decreased significantly in various industrial areas of the country. At the same time, it has made the electricity load-shedding situation more complicated. As a result, production in many factories has dropped to almost half, affecting domestic market supply and exports.

According to industrial entrepreneurs, glass, steel, textiles, ready-made garments, ceramics, biscuits, cakes and other manufacturing industries have been the most affected by the gas shortage. Because of the drop in production, products cannot be supplied according to market demand.

Businessmen say the production disruption has increased the production cost per unit of product. This has put many enterprises under additional financial pressure and created the risk of losses.

Export-oriented industries are not free from the impact of this crisis either. Those concerned said that due to disrupted production, there are concerns about supplying goods to foreign buyers within the scheduled time, which may have a negative effect on the export sector.

Industrial owners fear that many establishments may have to reduce production further if gas supply is not normalised quickly. They have warned that if the situation continues, some factories may have to take tough decisions such as laying off workers.

In this situation, the announcement by KGDCL that gas supply is likely to be restored gradually from Wednesday is being seen as a somewhat reassuring message for the industrial sector.
