Emphasis on Strengthening Bangladesh-Malaysia Cooperation in Agriculture and Livestock Sectors

During the meeting, fruitful discussions were held on further strengthening the existing friendly relations between Bangladesh and Malaysia, as well as expanding cooperation in the fisheries, livestock and agriculture sectors. In particular, emphasis was placed on the potential for halal meat exports, ensuring international standards for animal products, technology and knowledge exchange, research collaboration, skilled manpower development, increasing investment, and expanding agriculture and livestock-based trade.

The potential for exporting Bangladesh's world-famous Black Bengal goat to Malaysia received special attention in the discussion. In this regard, views were exchanged on increasing cooperation between the relevant agencies of the two countries on animal health certificates, halal certification, quarantine measures, sanitary and phytosanitary (SPS) standards and market expansion. The export potential of fish, meat, milk and other animal products was also discussed.

The Fisheries and Livestock and Agriculture Minister said that utilizing the excellent bilateral relations between Bangladesh and Malaysia, there are immense opportunities for joint initiatives, technology transfer, investment and trade expansion in the fisheries, livestock and agriculture sectors. He sought Malaysia's experience and technical cooperation in enhancing Bangladesh's capacity in the international halal meat market.

Malaysian High Commissioner H.E. Mohd Shuhada Othman praised the significant progress of Bangladesh's agriculture and livestock sectors. He expressed Malaysia's interest in expanding trade in potential animal products and agricultural commodities, including Black Bengal goats. He also emphasized further strengthening communication and cooperation between government and private sectors of the two countries.

During the meeting, First Secretary of the Malaysian High Commission Mr. Hazwan Hasnol was present.
