Expelled NCP Leader Salauddin Tanvir Sent to Jail in Cyber Security Act Case

He was produced before the Bogura Sadar Amli Court on Wednesday (August 5), where the judge issued the order.

Earlier, on Tuesday morning, a joint team of Detective Police (DB) and Bogura Sadar Thana Police arrested him during a raid in Dhaka. He was later brought to Bogura.

According to police and the case's First Information Report (FIR), Gazi Salauddin Tanvir had recently made a post on Facebook regarding Prime Minister Tarek Rahman, in the context of allegations of an attack on an NCP roadside rally in Sylhet. After the post went viral, it sparked widespread discussion and criticism. He later deleted the post and expressed regret.

Following this incident, the NCP expelled him from the party on charges of violating party discipline.

Meanwhile, on August 2, Maftun Ahmed Khan Rubel, President of Bogura Sadar Upazila BNP, filed a case under the Cyber Security Act with Bogura Sadar Thana.

The FIR stated that on July 29, a post from Gazi Salauddin Tanvir's Facebook ID contained defamatory and provocative comments against the Prime Minister. The complaint alleged that the post, which spread on social media, created confusion and excitement among the public. Although the post was later deleted, it was alleged that an attempt was made to defame the Prime Minister and disrupt public order through the post.
