Defeat of Fascism, Victory of Democracy: Information Minister
Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapan has said that the July Mass Uprising marked the defeat of fascism and the victory of democracy. He said that at that time, the BNP repeatedly stated, "The verdict will be given on the streets"—and ultimately, that verdict was delivered on the streets.

He made these remarks while speaking to journalists on Wednesday (August 5) morning after laying a wreath at the July Memorial in Barishal.

The Information Minister said that at that time, the entire Bangladesh was divided into two streams—"fascism versus democracy." Ultimately, in the face of the people's movement, fascism was defeated and the victory of democracy was ensured.

He said that in that continuation, through the 13th National Parliament election, the people established their rights and the current government was formed. He also expressed the expectation of transforming the parliament, achieved through the sacrifice of the martyrs, into an effective and people-oriented institution.

Zahir Uddin Swapan said that political differences should be resolved through democratic debate within parliament. He also commented that attempts to create conflict on the streets or spread anarchy on social media to destabilize the political environment are contrary to democratic culture.

Calling on behalf of Prime Minister Tarek Rahman to maintain national unity, the Information Minister said that the parliament must be established as the main center of the country's politics based on that very unity through which the fall of autocracy and the establishment of a democratic environment have been made possible.

He further said that establishing democratic values is the only way to uphold the true dignity of the martyrs' sacrifices. Stating that the government is committed to resolving all problems through peaceful means, he said that if necessary, the government will overcome any obstacle on the path to democracy by taking the people along.

At that time, Barishal Divisional Commissioner Khalil Ahmed, Deputy Commissioner Md. Mamun Khondker, senior officials of the administration, leaders of various political parties, freedom fighters, July fighters, and family members of the martyrs were present.
