He made these remarks as the chief guest at a reception and discussion meeting organized by the upazila administration for families of martyrs and July fighters at the Nandail Upazila Parishad auditorium in Mymensingh on Wednesday (August 5), marking "July Mass Uprising and Resistance Day."
The State Minister for Information said that during the 17-year-long anti-fascist movement, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party, its affiliated organizations, and our colleagues, brothers, and sisters under the leadership of the honorable Prime Minister and Party Chairman Tarek Rahman have struggled tirelessly. The government we have been able to form today is the fruit of their great sacrifices.
Highlighting his own political approach, Yaser Khan Chowdhury said, "I have been working quietly and steadily for the overall development of Nandail." He added, "During the difficult times of fascism, when no one dared to lead the BNP in Nandail, I led the movement and struggle on the streets with the leaders and workers." At this point, the leaders and workers present responded with repeated applause.
He further said that during the 17-year struggle, many were imprisoned, many endured oppression and persecution, and many survived near-death experiences. The seed of struggle against fascism that the honorable Prime Minister Tarek Rahman planted bore its historic fruit on August 5, 2024. Today marks the completion of two years of that historic mass uprising.
At the meeting, the State Minister for Information made several important announcements regarding the rehabilitation of families of July martyrs and the fighters.
He promised to construct semi-pucca houses for the listed families of July martyrs within the next two months.
Additionally, he informed that tube-wells will be installed at the homes of the martyrs' family members within the next seven days.
Furthermore, "Family Cards" and "Farmer Cards" will be provided for the martyr families in Nandail.
The State Minister also said that the development work of roads, bridges, culverts, schools, and madrasas in every ward, union, and municipality of Nandail is being regularly monitored and will be implemented on a priority basis.
The reception meeting, presided over by Nandail Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Salah Uddin Mahmud, was addressed by Mohammad Ali, younger brother of martyr Jubayer Islam; Mohammad Ali, elder brother of martyr Humayun Kabir; July fighter Sheikh Sadi; July fighter Rana Hossain; Chhatra Dal leader Piyas Hossain; Juba Dal leader Hakikuzzaman Nowfel; and July movement coordinator and student leader Saiful Islam Shaheen.
Others who spoke included Nandail Press Club President Enamul Haque Babul; Nandail Upazila BNP Senior Joint Convener Mizanur Rahman Liton; Upazila Livestock Officer K.M. Abdullah Al Mamun; and Nandail Upazila BNP Member Secretary Enamul Kader.
The event was attended by freedom fighters, family members of July martyrs, honored July fighters, local journalists, civil administration officials, and a large number of leaders and activists of the BNP and its affiliated organizations.
Before the reception, the State Minister arrived at Nandail in the morning and planted trees at the Shaheed Minar premises in memory of the July martyrs. Later, he signed a graffiti at the Upazila Parishad premises to preserve the memory of July.
In the afternoon, the State Minister inaugurated a photo exhibition titled "July in Pictures" in an open space in front of the auditorium. He also inaugurated a special book fair on July.
After that, he wrote and signed his own experiences on the "Memory Canvas" at the same venue. Later, others also wrote their experiences about July on the canvas.
Subsequently, he formally inaugurated the "July Corner" established at the Upazila Parishad.
After the events, State Minister Yaser Khan Chowdhury visited the graves of his deceased family members, recited Fateha, and offered prayers.
