Foreign Ministry statement strongly protesting Sheikh Hasina's remarks

The notice said that Bangladesh has noted with deep concern that convicted and fugitive Sheikh Hasina was given the opportunity to directly interact with the media in New Delhi. There, she and her associates made hateful remarks against the state and people of Bangladesh.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that the Indian government had been earlier informed of concerns that such an event could negatively impact Bangladesh-India bilateral relations. Bangladesh expresses deep regret that the event was held despite ignoring those concerns.

The statement further said that on the second anniversary of the July mass uprising, Sheikh Hasina's activities on Indian soil amount to insulting Bangladesh's sovereignty and displaying extreme disrespect to the martyrs of the July mass uprising.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs claimed that the attempt to deny the killings of innocent citizens, including children, in July-August 2024 mentioned in the United Nations report is a failed attempt to distort history.

The statement said that carrying the spirit of the July mass uprising, the people of Bangladesh have pledged not to return to fascism and not to allow the country to become a dependent state in any way. It was also mentioned that Sheikh Hasina and her political circle will have no place in Bangladesh politics anymore.

The Bangladesh government said that Bangladesh is interested in maintaining a constructive and forward-looking relationship with India based on mutual respect, sovereign equality, non-interference in each other's internal affairs, and national dignity.

The statement also mentioned that Bangladesh has still not received any response to its multiple requests for Sheikh Hasina to be handed over to the country under the Bangladesh-India Extradition Treaty of 2013. At the same time, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs commented that allowing her to give public media statements has hurt the sentiments of the people of Bangladesh and may negatively affect the development of good relations between the two countries.
