11-party alliance obstructed by police during Secretariat siege march
The 11-party alliance faced police obstruction while trying to stage a siege of the Secretariat to protest the fuel and gas crisis, 'phantom' electricity bills, deterioration of law and order, and price hikes on daily necessities.

On Thursday (August 6), after the sit-in program at Muktangan in the capital ended, around 12:40 pm, when leaders and activists started a procession toward the Secretariat, police obstructed their advance.

The siege program was led by Opposition Leader and Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman. Top leaders of the 11-party alliance, including ACP convener Nahid Islam, participated in the program.

Earlier, after 11 am, the sit-in program began at Muktangan in the capital. During the program, organized to protest the fuel crisis, high electricity bills, soaring commodity prices and the deterioration of law and order, it began raining around 11:50 am, but the leaders and activists continued the program.

Present at the program were Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) President Colonel (retd.) Dr. Oli Ahmad Bir Bikram, Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Mia Golam Parwar, Assistant Secretary General Dr. Hamidur Rahman Azad, JAGPA Vice President and Spokesperson Engineer Rasheed Pradhan, and other top leaders of the 11-party alliance.

After the police obstruction, additional law enforcement members were deployed at the scene to keep the situation under control. No detailed statement was immediately available from police on this matter.
