He gave this instruction at a meeting on water and environment conservation of the Buriganga River on Thursday (August 6).
After the meeting, Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Administrator Bir Muktijoddha Md. Abdus Salam informed journalists of this information.
He said the Prime Minister has directed submitting a practical action plan within the next one month to prevent river pollution.
The DSCC administrator said instructions will be given to install Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP) at every factory so that industrial waste does not fall into the river.
He said if rivers cannot be protected, human life and livelihoods will also face severe damage along with the environment. Therefore, action will be taken under existing laws against institutions that do not comply with government directives.
Md. Abdus Salam further said the government's goal is to free all rivers of the country from pollution. However, this initiative will begin with the rivers around Dhaka, and later it will be expanded gradually across the country.
