Decision of FPMC meeting: Distribution of fortified rice starts in 300 upazilas including existing 256 upazilas to ensure food security and nutrition
The decision was taken at the meeting of the Food Planning and Monitoring Committee (FPMC) held today in the conference room of the Ministry of Home Affairs, chaired by Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed, MP.

In the current fiscal year 2026-27, under the government's food-friendly program, a total of 9.90 lakh metric tons of rice will be distributed to 55 lakh rural poor and ultra-poor families in the country at Tk 15 per kg, 30 kg per month for 6 months. In addition, to eliminate malnutrition and strengthen people's nutritional security, a total of 06 (six) vitamin and mineral-enriched fortified rice will be distributed in 300 upazilas under the said program.

In the last five fiscal years, an average of 32.32 lakh metric tons in the public sector and 35.08 lakh metric tons in 2025-26 fiscal year have been distributed. Due to the continuous increase in demand for food grains and the expansion of food security, poverty alleviation and social safety net programs, a decision has been taken to increase the security stock of government food grains from the existing 13 lakh metric tons to 14 lakh metric tons in normal times and 15 lakh metric tons during disasters.

In addition, a decision has been taken to construct new food warehouses in 03 hill districts to ensure quick and uninterrupted storage and supply of food grains in remote hilly areas during natural disasters, emergency situations and temporary breakdown of communication systems. Also, a decision has been taken to increase the current food grain storage capacity by 30 lakh metric tons by 2030.

Members of the Food Planning and Monitoring Committee (FPMC) and concerned officials were present at the meeting.
