At least 14 people were killed in separate road accidents in two districts of the country. Among them, 8 were killed in a head-on collision between two buses in Osmaninagar, Sylhet, and 6 were killed after being run over by a passenger bus in Bogura. At least 18 others were injured in these incidents.

On Friday (August 7) morning, 8 people were killed on the spot in a head-on collision between two buses in Osmaninagar, Sylhet. Several others were reportedly injured in the accident. The injured were rescued and admitted to local hospitals. Police are working to ascertain the cause of the accident and the identities of the deceased.

Meanwhile, around 5:30 am on the same day, a passenger bus heading from Dhaka to Naogaon lost control and crashed hard into an electric pole beside the road in the Erulia Silkibandha area of the Bogura-Naogaon highway.

Police said several workers were standing beside the road at the time looking for work. When the out-of-control bus mounted them, three people were killed on the spot. Three more later died while undergoing treatment at the hospital. At least 18 people were injured in the incident.

The front part of the bus was mangled in the accident. The injured have been admitted to local hospitals and are receiving treatment.

Meanwhile, locals blocked the Bogura-Naogaon highway and staged protests in protest against the accident. As a result, vehicular movement on the highway came to a halt and long traffic jams were created.

Police said investigations are underway to ascertain the causes of both accidents and necessary legal action will be taken.
