India 'does not support' Hasina's remarks, Jaiswal says
India's Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal has made it clear that the Indian government does not support former prime minister Sheikh Hasina's recent remarks. During the weekly briefing on Friday (August 7), he said the press conference held in New Delhi on August 5 was organized at the initiative of a private media outlet and the Indian government had no role in it.

He further said, "The Indian government does not support any statement made on that platform, especially what has been said about the current government of Bangladesh.".

Earlier, Bangladesh's Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement strongly condemning Hasina's press conference. In the statement, it was said that from Indian soil, 'venomous remarks' were made against the state and people of Bangladesh, and that the event on the second anniversary of the July uprising was an insult to Bangladesh's sovereignty and a 'serious disrespect' to the martyrs. Jaiswal's remarks indicate India's support for efforts to rebuild bilateral relations and maintaining distance from Hasina's personal remarks..
