The committee was formed on Saturday afternoon by the Sylhet district administration. The committee, headed by Sylhet's Additional District Magistrate Pinky Saha, includes Highway Police, Fire Service, Roads and Highways Department, and Osmaninagar Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) as members.

9 killed in road accident in Sylhet, 5-member committee formed to investigate
Sylhet Deputy Commissioner Abdullah Al Mamun confirmed the matter. He said the accident occurred at around 7:10 am on Friday in the Kashikapur area of Osmaninagar. According to the district administration's count, nine people were killed and 16 injured. Among the deceased, seven died on the spot; later, a child died at the hospital and another died while undergoing treatment.
After the accident, the Deputy Commissioner, Additional Deputy Commissioner and District Relief Officer quickly went to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital and ensured medical arrangements for the injured. Each injured in the accident was given Tk 10,000 as immediate financial assistance, and one person receiving treatment in the ICU was given Tk 15,000. Each bereaved family has been given Tk 20,000 for burial and funeral expenses.

Regarding the cause of the accident, the Deputy Commissioner said that although the highway was empty, it is initially suspected that reckless driving or the drivers falling asleep may have caused the accident. However, the committee's report must be awaited to confirm the real cause. The committee has been asked to submit a detailed report within the next five working days.
Incidentally, this tragic accident occurred on Friday morning on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway in the Kashikapur area of Osmaninagar. Seven people died on the spot and two more died in hospital. Sixteen injured people were admitted to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital.
