He made these remarks on Saturday (August 8) afternoon as the chief guest at a discussion titled "The Role of University Teachers in the Fall of the Fascist Government," held at the Senate Building auditorium of Dhaka University. The event was organized by the Dhaka University White Panel and the University Teachers Association of Bangladesh (UTAB) to mark the second anniversary of the July Mass Uprising.
Salahuddin Ahmed said an interim government was formed on August 8, 2024, but its political and constitutional legitimacy had been questioned. He noted that although the interim government had indicated it might remain in power for five years, they forgot that the July uprising was the expression of student-public anger.
The Home Minister said, "We have a plan and a dream. Those engaged in the politics of selling conscience are speaking in favour of the fallen government. The current government is only five and a half months old—it is unfair to declare it a failure on the streets so soon."

Referring to the One-Eleven era, he said the biggest beneficiary was Sheikh Hasina, who has now returned to her own country and is facing trial.
On Sheikh Hasina's recent speech in India, Salahuddin Ahmed remarked, "India is allowing her to speak—this does not maintain bilateral relations properly. You cannot play the Hasina card and expect relations to remain intact." He also said that the fascist Hasina has shown no remorse, and without fulfilling the aspirations of the martyrs, no one has the right to practice politics in Bangladesh.
Special guests at the discussion included Prime Minister's Adviser and BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi and Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. ABM Obaidul Islam. The session was chaired by UTAB Secretary General and DU White Panel Convener Professor Dr. Morshed Hasan Khan.
During the event, family members of July uprising martyrs—Abu Sayed, Wasim Akram, Mir Mahfuzur Rahman Mugdho, and Ikramul Haque Sajid—were given special honours. Vice-chancellors, proctors, and teachers from various universities were also present.
In his speech, Rizvi said the movement was directed from London by Prime Minister Tareq Rahman and from India by Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed. He noted that BNP had supported every student movement and questioned India's role in allowing Hasina to speak in Delhi. He also expressed outrage over the omission of Shaheed Ziaur Rahman's speech from the "July Not Over Yet" exhibition.
