Satkhira's Arin hosts Hasina's virtual event, family stunned

The anchoring by a Bangladeshi youth at that event and the permission given by the Indian government for the programme—both issues have sparked a fresh discussion in Dhaka–New Delhi diplomatic relations. Meanwhile, there is curiosity and gossip in Satkhira over how Arin, the son of an ordinary business family, came so close to Sheikh Hasina and became the host of such a high-level event.

Arin is the eldest son of Abu Suayb Abel, owner of Jahan Press, beside Satkhira Sadar police station. He is currently staying in India for higher studies.

Arin's father Abu Suayb Abel said he did not know that his son was associated with any political party. He said he recognised his son after seeing the photograph published in the media. Saying that he does not have direct contact with Arin, he said Arin usually talks to his mother over the phone.

Arin's mother Zebunnesa Khushi, emotional, said, 'I sent my son to Delhi for education. He is extremely talented. I repeatedly asked him not to get involved in politics. But on August 5, I was stunned to see his picture online. When we talked once after the incident, hearing my crying, he told me to stay calm and hung up. I had a different kind of dream about my son, which has shattered today.'

Arin's appearance has sparked deep curiosity among neighbours and local residents. Many said Arin has not been seen in the area since the fall of Sheikh Hasina's government on August 5. One neighbour said, 'This is our Arin! I see he has become such a big leader, sitting beside former ministers and anchoring!'

According to local sources, Arin was close to Mir Mostak Ahmed Robin, former Awami League lawmaker of the Satkhira-2 constituency. However, how a young man from an ordinary family came into contact with the top political leadership so quickly remains a mystery.

Satkhira Superintendent of Police Abu Saleh Md. Ashraful Alam said on the matter that they were not aware of it earlier. However, efforts are on to collect information about Arin's background and overall details.
