He said these things as the chief guest at a discussion meeting titled ‘There is no alternative to a national policy in hawker rehabilitation management’ at Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam Auditorium of Press Club on Sunday (August 9) morning.

No one other than registered hawkers will be allowed to sit on the streets: DSCC administrator
The administrator said the hawker problem is a perennial problem, which requires active cooperation from hawkers for a permanent solution. Although various rehabilitation initiatives were taken in the past, they did not succeed. He informed that now, every week, discussions will be held with two representatives from different hawker associations to find a solution.
He further informed that to bring hawkers under discipline, ID cards and lists will be made and they will be brought under registration. Besides, the administrator also mentioned launching a ‘holiday market’ for them.
