No decision on Prime Minister's India visit: Foreign Minister
Foreign Minister Khilur Rahman has said that no decision has been made yet regarding Prime Minister Tarique Rahman's visit to India. He said, 'India has invited Tarique Rahman to the BRICS summit not as Bangladesh's Prime Minister but as the BIMSTEC chairperson. However, no decision has been made yet regarding the Prime Minister's visit to the country.'

The Foreign Minister gave this information at a press briefing at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday (August 10) after a meeting between Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and Indian High Commissioner to Dhaka Dinesh Trivedi at the Secretariat.

Journalists asked when relations with India would return to normal and whether any of the two invitations extended to the Prime Minister would be accepted. In response, Khilur Rahman said he is not a fortune-teller, so he cannot give a date for normalization of relations. He clarified that the Prime Minister had been invited as the BIMSTEC chairperson, not as an individual. The earlier invitation was sent by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the day the government was formed, and it remains under consideration.

Regarding the High Commissioner's meeting, he said it was a purely courtesy meeting; a meeting between the High Commissioner and the head of government usually does not involve discussion of specific issues such as the Ganges Water Treaty. Emphasis has been given to creating a favorable atmosphere to move bilateral relations forward.
