'Abhijatri Commuter' train launched on Dhaka-Gopalganj-Dhaka route
A pair of new trains named 'Abhijatri Commuter' has been launched on the Dhaka-Gopalganj-Dhaka route via the Padma Bridge. On Monday (10 August) at 3:30 pm, Honorable Minister of Road Transport and Bridges, Shipping and Railways Sheikh Rabiul Alam MP inaugurated the train at Dhaka Railway Station (Kamalapur). Honorable State Minister for Road Transport and Highways Division and Railways Habibur Rashid MP, Secretary of the Railways Ministry Md. Fahimul Islam, Director General of Bangladesh Railway Md. Afzal Hossain, along with senior officials of the Railways Ministry and Bangladesh Railway were present at that time.

The current government is working with special priority on expanding safe, affordable, modern and environment-friendly railway services. Along with building an effective commuter network between the capital and surrounding areas, various initiatives have also been taken to expand intercity rail services. Despite the shortage of adequate passenger coaches and locomotives, a pair of new commuter trains named 'Abhijatri Commuter' has been launched on the Dhaka–Gopalganj–Dhaka route within 180 days of assuming office through efficient resource management.

Through this train, employees, students, businessmen and general passengers from Gopalganj and intermediate areas will be able to travel to Dhaka every day at low cost and reliably, and return to their respective areas after the working day. As a result, the tendency of permanent settlement towards the capital will decrease and it will play a supportive role in reducing the existing pressure on Dhaka's housing, traffic congestion and urban services.

At the same time, it will create the opportunity to transport vegetables, agricultural products, fish and other locally produced products from Gopalganj and surrounding areas to Dhaka's markets quickly and at comparatively lower cost, which will further energize the local economy and benefit both producers and consumers.

Train No. 135 Abhijatri Commuter will leave Dhaka for Gopalganj at 3:30 pm and reach Gopalganj at 6:45 pm, and Train No. 136 Abhijatri Commuter will leave Gopalganj at 7:15 pm and reach Dhaka at 10:25 pm. The train will have 8 coaches and a total of 630 seats. On this 148-kilometer route between Dhaka and Gopalganj, there will be stops at a total of 7 stations. The intermediate stopping stations between Dhaka and Gopalganj are Keraniganj, Sreenagar, Mawa, Bhanga Junction, Nagarkanda, Maheshpur and Kashiani Junction. This train will remain suspended every Saturday. On the train's inaugural journey, Member of Parliament for Gopalganj-1 constituency Md. Selimuzzaman Mollah, Member of Parliament for Gopalganj-2 constituency Dr. K M Babar and Member of Parliament for Gopalganj-3 constituency S M Jillani traveled from Dhaka to Gopalganj along with the passengers.
