The minister said the government led by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has given utmost importance to relations with the 11 ASEAN member states. The Prime Minister's visit to Malaysia will play a positive role in advancing this relationship further. He further said Bangladesh has applied to become a Sectoral Dialogue Partner (SDP) of ASEAN, and cooperation projects have already been undertaken in fisheries, tourism, ICT and culture sectors.

The minister sought cooperation from ASEAN mission chiefs in helping Bangladesh achieve SDP status. Ambassadors and high commissioners of ASEAN member countries, government officials, business leaders and dignitaries were present at the event. Bangladesh's GI product 'Black Bengal Goat' and biryani made with kalojira rice were served at the event.
