He said, “In this land of six seasons, we have grown up with disasters. Various types of disasters keep striking here all the time. In the adversities of disasters, the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief stands by the destitute people who have lost everything as a beacon of hope.”

On Tuesday (11 August) morning, the minister said these words as the chief guest at the progress briefing workshop on the project titled ‘Development of Early Warning and Dissemination System for Floods at the Local Level’, being implemented by the Department of Disaster Management under the ‘Prohati’ project titled ‘Enhancing Resilience of Vulnerable Communities through Infrastructure Development and Information’, held at the ‘BIAM’ auditorium in the capital. 

The project is being implemented in 19 upazilas of the flood-prone districts of Gaibandha, Kurigram and Jamalpur in the north-western part of the country. It is helping local people cope with flood risks by improving the seasonal flood early forecasting system at the local level and disseminating early flood warnings. 

Presided over by Rezwanur Rahman, Director General of the Department of Disaster Management, the event was attended by State Minister for Disaster Management and Relief M. Iqbal Hossain as a special guest. Also spoke the Ministry’s Secretary-in-charge ABM Shafiqul Haider, Chief Engineer of LGED Belal Hossain, among others.
