According to popular accounts, when the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) fell ill near the end of his life, his physical condition improved somewhat on the last Wednesday of the month of Safar. The observance of this day originates from that event. However, scholars differ over the reliability of this account.
On this day, many worshippers perform acts of worship such as nafl prayers, supplications and charity. In some places, religious gatherings and milad mahfils are also organized. However, a section of Islamic thinkers believes that there is insufficient evidence in the Quran and Sunnah to give this day any special status separately.
Meanwhile, all educational institutions in the country are closed today. However, it is not a general public holiday, but rather falls under optional holiday. According to the annual holiday list of the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education, schools, colleges, madrasas, technical institutions and public and private universities across the country will remain closed today.
