Dr. Irene Zubaida Khan, the designated Permanent Representative and Ambassador of Bangladesh to the United Nations, has paid a courtesy call on Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahid Uddin Swapan MP.
The meeting was held in the minister's office at the Secretariat at noon today, Thursday (13 August).
During the meeting, emphasis was placed on projecting Bangladesh's positive image abroad and appropriately presenting Bangladesh's positions and achievements in the international arena.
In view of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman's participation in the upcoming session of the United Nations General Assembly, the issue of appropriately highlighting Bangladesh's activities and various programs of the Prime Minister in international media was discussed. During this time, views were exchanged on media management of the Prime Minister's visit, projecting Bangladesh's positions and priorities in international media, and various aspects of presenting Bangladesh's positive image to the world.
Dr. Irene Khan sought cooperation from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting in projecting Bangladesh's positive image abroad. The Information Minister assured necessary cooperation.
During the meeting, both identified the spread of propaganda and misinformation on various digital platforms, including social media, as a major challenge and cause for concern.
In order to counter such propaganda, detailed discussions were held on effective communication strategies, ensuring rapid flow of information, presenting accurate information, and measures needed to strengthen Bangladesh's position on digital platforms.
The Information Minister highlighted the measures taken by the ministry in this regard and stressed that the government, media, and all concerned parties should work together effectively to counter false and misleading information.
At that time, officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Information were present.
