On Thursday (August 13) around 3:15 pm, Pabna District Magistrate and Deputy Commissioner Aminul Islam confirmed this information and said that considering humanitarian aspects, his application for parole release for four hours to attend his mother's funeral has been approved. From 8 am to 12 pm on Friday (August 14), he will be released under police escort.
His lawyer Advocate Rezaul Karim Palash said, although Golam Hasnain Russell got bail, he was shown under arrest in another case. Later, when an application for parole release was submitted to the District Magistrate and Deputy Commissioner to attend his mother's funeral, he approved it. After completing his mother's funeral and burial under police custody, he will return to jail in due time.
Earlier, on Thursday (August 13) at 9:55 am, Russell's mother Nurjahan Rekha died while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Dhaka. She had been suffering from kidney and other complex diseases for a long time. When her physical condition deteriorated, she was admitted to a hospital in Dhaka about a month and a half ago and was placed on life support there.
In this context, on the night of July 20, police arrested Russell and his associate Bashir from the Mirpur area of Dhaka. Later, they were sent to jail in a case filed under the Explosives Act at Bhangura police station.
Recently, his lawyer filed a bail petition in court citing his mother's critical condition. After a long hearing, on Wednesday (August 12), Judge Aftabuzzaman of the 2nd Additional District and Sessions Judge Court of Pabna granted his bail. Although the court's bail order reached Pabna District Jail, he was not released.
Meanwhile, Russell's mother died early Thursday morning. That same day, police produced him in court and showed him arrested in another case recently filed at Chatmohar police station. As a result, before the court's bail in one case could take effect, he remained trapped in jail after being shown arrested in a new case.
He then feared being deprived of the chance to attend his mother's funeral one last time. At one point, while in court, he broke down in tears for his mother. Later, as the parole release application was approved by the District Magistrate, Russell is getting the opportunity to attend his mother's funeral.
