Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has relinquished the charge of the Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives (LGRD) Ministry after becoming the party candidate for the upcoming presidential election. In this situation, the government has made urgent reshuffles in several important cabinet portfolios. The decision was taken at a high-level government meeting on Thursday (August 13).
According to the new decision, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has been given the charge of the LGRD Ministry left by Mirza Fakhrul. On the other hand, Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annie, who was in charge of the Ministry of Water Resources, has been made the new Home Minister in place of Salahuddin Ahmed.

Government policy-making sources said the rapid change was made to maintain administrative continuity and keep institutional activities uninterrupted.
