Karoline Leavitt to step down as White House Press Secretary

In a post on social media, Trump referred to Leavitt as one of his 'most trusted aides.' He said, 'Karoline will now remain one of my chief outside advisers and an influential voice for the Republican Party.'

Leavitt, 28, took over as White House Press Secretary last year. Through this, she became the youngest person in history to hold the position. Who will replace her has not yet been announced.

Last May, Leavitt gave birth to her second child with her husband Nicholas Riccio. They also have a two-year-old son. She returned to work last month after her maternity leave ended.

After Trump's announcement, Leavitt wrote on social media that serving as White House Press Secretary was the 'greatest honor and most thrilling experience' of her life.

She said, 'Being a mother while also carrying out one of the hardest jobs in the world was both the most joyful and the most challenging.'

Leavitt also said that after returning to the White House following her daughter's birth, she realized that while giving the time, energy, and focus required for the Press Secretary's responsibilities, she could not be the best mother her two young children deserved. For that reason, she decided to leave the White House with 'a heavy heart.'
