Army chief returns home after visiting South Sudan and Abyei missions

ISPR said that during the visit, he inspected the Bangladesh Army's Engineer Company, Infantry Battalion, Navy's Force Marine Unit in South Sudan and the Infantry Battalion in Abyei. He instructed the peacekeepers to perform their duties with professionalism, discipline and vigilance. He also exchanged views with officials of the UNMISS and UNISFA missions.

The Army Chief met with UNMISS Force Commander Major General Junhui Wu and UNISFA Force Commander Lieutenant General Ganesh Kumar Shrestha. He also held discussions with the Mission Leadership Team in Abyei and the National Monitors from Sudan and South Sudan.

Later, he paid a courtesy call on South Sudan's Defence Minister Chol Thon Balok and Chief of Defence Forces General Santino Deng Wol. During that time, he was given a guard of honour. This visit is expected to boost the morale of Bangladeshi peacekeepers and strengthen Bangladesh-United Nations relations.
