Ferdous Wahid, managing director of Ferdous Shipyard, said three people died on the spot. According to Fire Service and CHAMEC sources, workers fell sick and became unconscious due to the toxic gas while going inside the shipyard for work in the morning. A Fire Service team reached the spot and recovered three bodies.

SI Nurul Alam Ashek of Chattogram Medical College Hospital police outpost said six people were initially brought to the hospital. The doctor on duty declared five of them dead. After reports of more deaths, the number of fatalities rose to eight. The bodies were kept in the hospital morgue.
