BNP leader chants 'Joy Bangla' during motorcycle showdow

The incident occurred on Saturday (August 16) around 11:08 am in front of the Eidgah ground of Madaripur municipality during the showdow.

According to leaders and activists and police, BNP leaders and activists took a cautious position fearing an unpleasant situation over any Awami League program centered on August 15. As part of this, under the leadership of Md. Abul Bashar Matubbar, joint convener of district Krishak Dal, they took positions and held a motorcycle showdow on various roads of the city.

During the showdow, leaders and activists were raising various slogans. At one stage, from the mouth of a leader among them, the slogan 'Joy Bangla' was uttered. The momentary incident created curiosity among the leaders and activists present.

Local BNP leaders and activists said they were in a cautious position in the field so that no one could create chaos or sabotage around August 15. However, they did not agree to comment in detail on how that slogan came during the showdow.

Police said surveillance has been increased in important areas of the city to keep the law and order situation normal around August 15. The police are alert so that no side can create conflict or chaos.

In this regard, attempts were made to contact Md. Abul Bashar Matubbar, joint convener of district Krishak Dal, on his mobile phone multiple times, but he did not respond.

District Krishak Dal member secretary Ahiduzzaman Khan Ohid said, 'I do not know who or how many people held the showdow. We are looking into the matter.'

District Krishak Dal convener Advocate Oliur Rahman Darji said, 'If anyone from our party has raised such a slogan during the motorcycle showdow, then legal action will definitely be taken against him.'

Madaripur Sadar police station OC Abul Kalam Azad said, 'We do not know about the slogan. If such an incident has happened, then the matter will definitely be investigated. It will be found out through investigation why that slogan was raised.'
